700 Marines Deployed in Los Angeles Amid Migrant Clashes

10 JUN 2025 06:47
US authorities have confirmed the decision to deploy about 700 marines in Los Angeles, in addition to the already dispatched National Guard forces.

The deployment of marines is taking place against the backdrop of clashes with immigration service employees. In addition, another 2,000 National Guard members are being sent to the city. California authorities have deemed the decision to deploy the National Guard illegal and have filed a lawsuit against Donald Trump's administration.

In a comment to AFP, a senior White House official stated that the deployment of marines is due to the "escalation of threats against federal employees and buildings."

According to a statement from the military command, the marines will "smoothly integrate" with the already deployed forces, which are "protecting federal personnel and property in the Los Angeles metropolitan area."
